Manatee Pool

Here visitors can watch our manatees, the animals that were the models of mermaid legends, from both above and below. Visitors can see them underwater in the underground viewing room. Manatees, in their natural habitat, are herbivory mammals that feed on water plants. In the pool, they are fed lettuce, water hyacinths and other plants. A full grown manatee can grow up to between 3 and 4.5 meters. But in contrast to their large bodies, they are a very gentle species of mammal.

These manatees came to the park as goodwill ambassadors from Mexico. In October of 2001, Yuma (female) was born, allowing visitors to see an entire family.

Viewing is admission free. The pool is approximately a 10 minute walk from the Park Information Center (Haisai Plaza). It can also be accessed by the Trolley (charges apply).
